Japanese Hardcore Wrestling: Harder Than Hardcore

Studio: wK Media, L.L.C.
Format: Color
Length: Approx. 2 hours
Released: February 2, 2002
Features: SP VHS Mode (2 hour)

The video tape opened with Joel Gertner & Missy Hyatt running down the FIVE CHAMPIONSHIP matches on the show.

Missy Hyatt is known as the "First Lady of Pro Wrestling" but she does not look that appealing to the eye anymore (in my opinion). But hey, I do not have to look at her the majority of the time. It is off to the matches!

Before I get to the actual action, I would like to take this time to point out the video included Joel Gertner introducing each wrestler with neat graphics packages showing us their full name, home town, finishing move, and age. This was a nice surprise and helped me understand who these wrestlers were. I really liked that part of the video presentation and give wK Media a thumbs up for this! The show has an excellent feel to it so far.

Combat-Zone Junior Championship Match: Trent Acid (Champion) v. The Winger (Takashi Okano) (Korakuen Hall Big-Japan).

The action started to pick up at the 5:00 mark with an Asai moonsault out of the ring by Okano on to Acid's second at ringside (Cage) and then Acid did a spinning pescada moonsault off the top rope on to Okano to the floor. At 6:33 Okano went for a Super plex off the top rope on to a chair, but Acid reversed it in to a sit-down gordbuster. Okano spilled out to the floor as Acid was celebrating, and Cage attacked Okano opening a gash in his forehead (major blade job). Acid began beating down Okano with punches. Okano went for a super kick but Acid reversed it and went for a cross body off the top rope and Okano reversed that for a 2 count. Acid got a chair and tossed it on the mat, went to the top rope and was caught by Okano. Okano hit a Huricanrana off the top rope on to the chair below for another near fall. Okano went for a swinging DDT off the top but Acid reversed it in to a face first power bomb for a near fall. Okano rolled to the floor & Acid followed. Acid & Okano brawled in to the crowd. Acid tossed Okano in to an empty row of chairs. They brawled up the stands and Acid went to Irish whip Okano off the balcony but Okano reversed and sent Acid crashing in to chairs some 5 feet below. Trent Acid was recovering as we were told Okano was setting up some tables (all we saw was Acid being helped up by Cage for about a minute and a half). Okano carried Acid out to the hall way and put him down in the middle of it. He then went back and climbed on the stands, but Acid got up. So Okano jumped off the stands and walked over to Acid and they both helped each other up on to the stands (I am not quite sure what this was all about. There has been a lack of action for about 3 minutes now). Acid went for a punch but Okano cut it off with a low blow and then signaled for a big move. DDT on the stage at 12:42 by Okano. Okano put Acid on two tables on top of the stage and then walked around to the back of the stage and he climbed to the balcony above the stage. At 13:46 Okano jumped off the balcony with a sentan bomb (reverse splash) and he over shot Acid and completely missed the first table (which Acid was on) and just barely hit the second table, crashing through it. It was a really brutal spot. Acid dumped himself face first off the table he was on, to make it look as if Okano had hit him (which he never did). Okano & Acid sold the move for over a minute (actually Acid played dead after the minute was up) and Okano dragged Acid back in to the ring. Acid kicked out after a 2 count at 15:15. Okano gave us a signal the match was over. Okano went for a sunset flip, 2 count, reverse 2 count, reverse 2 count, reverse 2 count, both wrestlers to their feet. Backslide power bomb by Acid for another near fall. Okano goes for a power bomb but Acid reversed it in to a pinfall, but Okano reversed the pinfall in to his own for the win. 16:36 New CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion The Winger.

Back to Missy Hyatt & Joel Gertner in the wK Media studios discussing the action we just saw. Missy is crying because her man Trent Acid is "f'd" up beyond recognition, or as us hardcore fans like to say he was FUBR! Missy wonders if Trent is wandering around the streets of Tokyo. Joel tells us it is time to take this video tape to the EXTREME!! As we are about to embark on a journey never before witnessed in North America!

We will be witness to the most brutal match in the history of women's professional wrestling. This will be a "Female death Match!.

Big Japan Women's Championship: Kiyoko Ichiki (Champion) v. Misae Genki.

Ichiki rushed in at Genki to start and was caught in a Bossman slam for a 2 count. Genki argued with the ref about the count being slow. Ichiki rolled to the floor immediately and the ref went out to check on her. Let me explain this was a death match which meant tables were set up in some of the ring corners to begin the match. Some with barbwire wrapped around them. Ichiki stayed outside of the ring for a good one minute or so (at the start of the match, after one move). Ichiki got back in and Genki gave her a number of chops (think Flair). I think Genki is the Japanese female version of Kane. Genki went for another power move, but Ichiki flipped out of it. Ichiki was caught in to another power move. Genki backed Ichiki to the barbwire table and was about to dump her backwards with a back suplex. But instead dropped her forwards with an atomic drop (now that's hardcore!). Genki got a near fall. Genki began chopping Ichiki again. Genki backed up and hit a giant boot to the face of Ichiki (she is Kane). Big Airplane spin by Genki and then a giant toss after it. Genki got a florescent light tube and approached Ichiki with it. But she tossed it away, and didn't use it (now that's hardcore!). Choke slam by Genki for a near fall. Genki goes to the top rope (obviously for the Kane flying clothesline spot) but Ichiki rolls to the light tube and smashes it on Genki's head. Genki falls to the floor and Ichiki follows and picks up another light tube and uses it with a camel clutch. Ichiki then smashed it over Genki's head once again. Genki is in a fetal position outside the ring as the ref is checking on her. Ichiki then stands on her back and starts walking her dry. Genki is crying, the action has been stopped for around 2 minutes now. Ichiki sits on Genki for a few seconds. Ichiki is pushing a sharp piece of the tube in to Genki's forehead. Ichiki back in the ring, hits Genki with a dropkick as she tries to get back in. Genki finally gets in the ring, kicks to her head. At the 6:00 Ichiki tries to run Genki in to the table with barbwire on it but Genki goes for a clothesline and misses, a second one and misses, and then Ichiki hits a savat kick knocking Genki backwards through the barbwire table breaking it in half. Ichiki steps on Genki's head as she is tangled in the barbwire and then rubs her face in to the barbwire. YES!! Ichiki Irish whips Genki in to the ropes but Genki reverses it and picks Ichiki up in a choke slam position and carries her across the ring and choke slams her on the barbwire table (incredible!). Genki tossed Ichiki to the floor and follows her out to the floor. Genki hits a tombstone piledriver on Ichiki through a ringside table. Genki drags Ichiki around the ring introducing her head to the ring mat on the way to another table at ringside. Genki sets up the table and then hits another tombstone pledriver off the ring apron through the second table! Genki throws Ichiki in to the first row of empty seats. Chair to Ichiki by Genki. Genki drags Ichiki to a table at ringside wrapped in barbwire and puts her head on to the barbwire and steps on her head pushing it in to the barbwire. Now both Ichiki & Genki are a bloody mess. Back brainbuster suplex to Ichiki by Genki. Only a 2 count. Choke Slam by Genki for another near fall. Genki grabs the barbwire table set up in the corner of the ring and drags it to the center of the ring. She knocks the legs out from under it and folds it up with the barbwire sticking upwards. Genki lifts Ichiki up for a power bomb, but Ichiki blocks it and goes for a Huricanrana, but Genki blocks it for another attempt at the power bomb, blocked by Ichiki a couple more times (it was an impressive sequence for women to pull off). Finally Genki gets tired of the sequence and drags Ichiki over the barbwire and puts on the Walls of Jericho. Ichiki's face was in the barbwire but she refused to submit. Finally Genki released the hold and slammed Ichiki to the barbwire below. Genki detaches Ichiki from the barbwire (which was sticking in her) and then set up the table again in the center of the ring (this time in erect position). At this point both Genki & Ichiki climb the top rope. Genki is going for a power move again through the table but Ichiki will have nothing of it. Ichiki opens up with stiff punches to Genki. Ichiki is spun around by Genki in to power bomb position, reverse in to a Huricanrana but Genki blocks again. Power bomb through the barbwire table! Genki goes for the pin at 12:22 but gets only 2. Genki hits a giant punch knocking Ichiki back down. Ichiki is back up immediately and is screaming. She chops Genki. Another punch by Genki, Ichiki comes right back. Genki goes for another tombstone but drops Ichiki who slips down and rolls up Genki for a 2 and 1/2 count. Genki is real mad, picks up Ichiki for another power move but Ichiki slips away again and rolls her up for another two count. Genki says it is over and picks Ichiki up for another power move but Ichiki again slips out and rolls her up for another near fall. Both are down now, Ichiki up first, boot to Genki's head. Ichiki goes to the get the table in the other corner (no barbwire) and sets it up in the center of the ring. Ichiki puts Genki on the table and goes up to the top rope, but Genki rolls off and cuts her off. Ichiki jumps anyway and hits a sunset flip in to a power bomb on Genki and through the table. Ichiki gets another light tube and drags Genki to the opposite corner (away from the table) by her hair. Ichiki put the light tube on Genki but it rolled off, she started to go outside, saw the light tube fall off and came back and then decided to go outside anyway to get a barbwire table from ringside. Ichiki is back in and picks up Genki, but Genki is waiting and knocks Ichiki down. Genki goes to use the light bulb but Ichiki gets another roll up near fall. Ichiki puts Genki on the barbwire table in the ring but it collapses when she puts Genki on it (Now that's hardcore!). Ichiki rolls Genki off the broken table and screams at the table and then fixes the table. Ichiki puts Genki back on the table again and it cooperates this time! Ichiki gets another light tube at ringside Ichiki shatters the light tube over Genki's stomach and then gets another one and places it on top of Genki. Ichiki gets four more and places them all on Genki (who is great hardcore fashion is holding them so they won't fall ensuring the spot won't be messed up). Ichiki hits a 360 leg drop (sort of like the Sabu move) on Genki through the table on to the light tubes. The table refused to sell though (did not break, now that's hardcore!). Ichiki goes for the pinfall and she has it!! Wait, she picked up Genki at 2 (what?! Yeah. I can buy that one, I guess she is hardcore!). But the referee refused to allow her to be hardcore (now the REF is really HARDCORE!!) and said it was a three count. 17:00

Joel & Missy are back after that brutal, unbelievable contest! It was one of the greatest women's matches I have ever witnessed! I and I have imported tapes of Japanese All Japan Women's Wrestling! So that is me saying a MOUTH full! Up next is the huge WEW Championship match.

WEW Hardcore Title Match: Kintaro Kanemura (champion) v. Ryuji Yamakawa

Kanemura faked like he was leaving, got a chair, got back in the ring and tossed it to Yamakawa and then hit a front dropkick in to the chair as Yamakawa was holding it. Kanemura slammed Yamakawa on the chair and then hit a sentan bomb off the top rope on Yamakawa for a near fall. Yamakawa rolls to the floor, Kanemura rolls outside to the opposite side of the ring and sets up some chairs. This goes on for about two minutes. Finally Yamakawa gets in the ring and rushes at Kanemura who picks him up and slams him over the top rope on to the chairs he had set up. Kanemura hits a butt drop off the top rope to Yamakawa on the floor. Kanemura throws Yamakawa in to the chairs at ringside. Kanemura slams Yamakawa on the chairs and signals the match is over. Kanemura drags Yamakawa around the ring and whips him towards the ring post, but Yamakawa reverses it and runs Kanemura headfirst in to the post. Yamakawa gets the florescent light tube (which is at ringside for some reason) and smashes it over Kanemura's head. This brings Kanemura back from the dead who gets his own tube (tubes) and smashes them in to Yamakawa. Kanemura is using the sharp edge of one of the broken tubes on Yamakawa now. Kanemura is back in the ring now waiting for Yamakawa to get up. Yamakawa gets up and Kanemura used the broken sharp tube to cut open his arm repeatedly. Kanemura is acting like the tube is a dildo now making obscene gestures that Yamakawa is going to suck his wang. Yamakawa is doing nothing but resting in the ring. Kanemura is jostling around and asks for a chair. He is tossed a chair and then smashes Yamakawa with the chair. Kanemura goes to work on the arm of Yamakawa now. Yamakawa refuses to submit so Kanemura smashes the chair on his arm again and again. Kanemura uses elbow to the injured arm and then whips Yamakawa to the far corner and rushed in for a big splash. Yamakawa comes out with a flying dropkick knocking Kanemura down. Kanemura comes back and goes for a reverse back suplex but Yamakawa reversed it and goes for his own, but Kanemura nut shots him to block it and points to his head (how smart he is). Kanemura is celebrating his intelligence now, allowing Yamakawa to hit a German suplex (not so smart now). At this point Kanemura rolls to the floor and both wrestlers rest for a while. Kanemura comes back in and they exchange slaps across the face. Yamakawa comes back with some brutal stiff chops (WOOO!) and then a back elbow, more chops, elbow, more chops, elbow.. NUT SHOT BY Kanemura! Ace Crusher by Kanemura. Brainbuster by Kanemura. Three chairs are tossed to Kanemura, now four, now five, now six, Six chairs in the center of the ring, now seven, now eight. Chair to the back of Yamakawa by Kanemura. Running power bomb on to the eight chairs by Kanemura. Only a near fall out of that one. Now Kanemura goes to the top and signals the end is near. Yamakawa is up and cuts off Kanemura. Super plex by Yamakawa off the top rope to the eight chairs in the center of the ring. Only a 2 count. Kick by Yamakawa. He has him set up for the Pedigree, but Kanemura has scouted this move too much. Kanemura picks up Yamakawa and he And he hits a reverse Bubba Bomb on to eight chairs (have to see it to believe it folks) for a near fall. Kanemura rolls to the floor and sets a table out, then rolls Yamakawa out of the ring and on to the table. Kanemura goes to the top rope but Yamakawa cuts him off and tries to press slam Kanemura off the top rope through the table at ringside. Kanemura blocks it with punches. Yamakawa hits the press slam through the table. Near fall outside the ring. Yamakawa gets a chair and brutalizes Kanemura with many chairs shots. Now Yamakawa sets up two tables at ringside side by side of each other and drags Kanemura to the stage area. Kanemura and Yamakawa are having dueling chair wars (think Balls Mahoney routine in ECW). Kanemura wins and begins to move the chairs on the stage, he smacks Yamakawa with a chair shot again. Power bomb on the stage on top of a bunch of chairs by Kanemura for a near fall. Kanemura goes for a Razor's Edge on Yamakawa off the stage through the tables but luckily for Yamakawa he slips out at the last second. Kick to the gut and followed by a stiff DDT! Both guys down. Yamakawa up first and he is followed by Kanemura. Yamakawa goes for a suplex off the stage through the tables but Kanemura reversed it for his own, Yamakawa blocks it. Kick to Kanemura's stomach, followed by the suplex off the stage through the two tables. Yamakawa and Kanemura over shot the first table and just nicked the second table (brutal). Both wrestlers are down as the crowd creates a circle around them. The first up is Yamakawa, who staggers to the stage and looks around noticing Kanemura is on the floor below him. Yamakawa goes to the end of the stage and runs full tilt with a flying cross body press off the stage right in to a chair held by Kanemura. Kanemura sets up some tables and then drags Yamakawa to the hall way, and then sets up some more tables. Yamakawa returns back to the ring and is met with a table to the head by Kanemura. And then another one to the head by Kanemura. Kanemura stacks two tables on top of one another and drags Yamakawa to the stage. Power bomb off the stage through two tables (this looked like it killed Yamakawa for real). Kanemura only got a 2 1/2 count out of it! Kanemura is walking around now, he seems to be lost. Kanemura grabs a piece of the table and realized Yamakawa is back near the stage. Kanemura goes back to the stage and rams the table piece in to Yamakawa's head and then drags him back in the ring. Kanemura repeatedly hits Yamakawa over the head with the broken table piece. Yamakawa feels no pain and eggs Kanemura on. A stunned Kanemura bounces off the ropes in to a clothesline from hell by Yamakawa! Yamakawa is on fire now playing to the crowd. Yamakawa grabs the broken table and hits Kanemura on the head with it. Yamakawa bounces off the ropes in to a backslide by Kanemura for a near fall. Punches by Kanemura, bounces off the ropes, block a Yamakawa clothesline from hell attempt, more punches by Kanemura. Roaring elbow by Kanemura. Yamakawa is staggered, CLOTHESLINE FROM HELL by Yamakawa. 2 1/2 count. Both wrestlers down again, Yamakawa is up first and signals it is over. Yamakawa goes for another Pedigree but Kanemura again has it scouted and reverses the hold and places Yamakawa on the top rope for a super plex. Kanemura gets a chair at ringside but Yamakawa kicks it in to his face. Yamakawa sets up Kanemura, double arm DDT off the top rope (called a dragon driver). Kanemura kicks out at 2 and 3/4ths. Yamakawa hits a double under hook face buster for the pinfall to win the WEW title at 22:10.

After the match some Japanese official crowned the Champion with a speech and gave him some official papers.

Missy & Joel are back once again. I could have done without these wrap arounds. I was going to be nice. But this is a review! And I found the interaction with Missy & Joel to be beyond bad. Joel was decent at some points, but I could have done without Missy Hyatt. I think this would have been an all around better presentation if it included a real SERIOUS announcer to play off of Joel, and not Missy Hyatt for whining, comedy interaction. But, the quality of the wrestling outweighed the moments with Missy Hyatt involved. I've heard they got Buck Woodward for the second Japanese Hardcore PPV. I think that is about what this one needed!

Grand Prix Finals for the Grand Cup: Mike Samples v. Shadow WX (Satoru Shiga).

For some reason the lights were off during this match. Oh, It is a florescent light bulb match and the light bulbs are lighted on top of a table in the ring corners. Some brawling to start this one out between the two, and out to the floor. Hard to see any action now because the lights are out. More brawling, in to the crowd and up the stands now. Samples rams Shadow in to a stair way. Brawling up the narrow stair way. Shadow almost falls off half way up. They are not doing much but brawling (trying too) on the stair way. Then they decide it isn't going to work and abandon that plan. Brawling back on the floor now. Brawling around the arena now and down a second stair way. Brawling outside the arena now. Brawling through a hall way. Can not see any action now as they are showing the empty ring again. Brawling back around the ring through the crowd to the other side now. Samples is spitting on Shiga now. Shiga throws a table at Samples, who doesn't sell it. Samples rips the table apart with his hands (boy those tables are hardcore now) and then they brawl back around the crowd. WOW!! 6:25 of brawling and they make it to the ring. Shiga throws Samples in to the first table with the light bulbs lit. All the lights are out now, hard to see. Savat kick to Samples head in the darkened ring. Shiga sets up a table (well that is what Gertner told us he was doing). Shiga puts Samples on the table (I guess). Shiga seems to be taking his clothes off (can't really tell). Actually, I guess Shiga was putting some clothes on as he lit himself on fire after he climbed to the top rope and leaped off on to Samples through the table in the center of the ring. Shiga is on fire now!! LOL!! Shiga is running around the arena and he is on f'n FIRE!! They are throwing water on him.. but he won't go out!! HE's still on fire!! The camera goes off of him, and then finds him a good 15 seconds later and he is still on fire!!! Ten more seconds pass and he is still on fire, the cameras pull away from him again. Now it is too dark to see a damned thing. Samples is still laid out in the middle of the ring. Somehow Shiga gets back in the ring and goes after Samples, who finally gets up and hits a clothesline for the pin at the 9:48 mark (bad match, great spots).

Back to Missy & Joel in the studios, I hope for the very last time.

BIG JAPAN WRESTLING HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: Tomoaki Honma (champion) v. Yosuke Kobayashi

This one seemed to be a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match. As a ladder was set up in the middle of the ring to start out and tables in each corner. One table had barbwire wrapped around it. Brawling to start back and forth between the two until Honma gets a perfect drop toe hold on The Butcher (Yosuke is called The Butcher). Headlock by Honma and then reversed in to a Japanese arm-breaker by Butcher. Both to their feet, giant head butt by Butcher. Headlock tie up by Butcher, whipped to the ropes by Honma. Both collide with shoulder blocks but neither budges. Honma tells Butcher to try again, Butcher off the ropes but neither goes down again. Butcher tells Honma to try the shoulder block now, Honma off the ropes misses a clothesline as Butcher ducks and hits an arm drag takedown but Honma reversed it in to a quick head scissors but Butcher kicks out, both men to their feet. Both men stare each other down. Both men circle each other. Lock up, kick by Honma, now chops. Butcher returns the chops. Honma is down now. Kick by Butcher, Butcher tosses Honma to the floor and follows him outside. Butcher smashed Honma's face in to the ring apron and then Irish whips him in to the crowd in to some empty chairs. Butcher has a power chord around Honma's neck choking him on the floor. Butcher drags Honma to the crowd and Irish whips him back towards the ring but Honma reverses it sending Butcher in to a ladder at ringside. Side slam by Honma to the floor. Honma to the top rope grabs the ladder and falls down with the ladder on to Butcher's knee on the floor. Honma throws the ladder in the ring and then Butcher. Honma throws the ladder down on to Butcher. Honma slams Butcher and sets the ladder up in the corner, grabs a second ladder and places it beside Butcher. Honma climbs up the ladder to the top, Butcher is up and begins shaking the ladder. Butcher climbs up the ladder and both are standing on it now. Honma begins to wrench Butcher's arm repeatedly on the top of the ladder now. Honma jumps off the ladder and goes under Butcher and puts Butcher on his shoulders. Honma falls backwards with a fall away slam on Butcher in to the table in the corner with barbwire on it. Both hit the barbwire pretty bad! Honma sets up another ladder, and then smears Butcher's head in to the barbwire. Honma positions both ladders once again and then he drags Butcher with the board with the barbwire (still attached to Butcher) to the middle of the ring. Butcher is free of the table now and Honma signals he will toss Butcher in to one of the far ladders in the corner. Honma grabs Butcher and whips him towards the ladder but Butcher reverses it. Honma adjusts and attempts to climb the ladder for an Asai moonsault press but he slips and catches his ankle in the ladder (he fucked up!). Chops by Butcher, Butcher resets the table, Butcher resets the spot. Honma whips Butcher towards the same ladder, Butcher reverses and Honma this time goes back first in to the ladder. Butcher grabs the ladder and throws it on Honma. Butcher wraps barbwire around Honma's head and blades him. Butcher whips Honma in to the corner and gets the ladder. Butcher and Honma are fighting for position. Honma dropkicks the ladder in to Butcher. Butcher tosses the ladder down on Honma's back. Both out to the floor again. Butcher posts Honma twice in to the ring post. Butcher gets a broom and beats down Honma with it and then rams it in to his bloody cut. Head butt by Butcher. Back in the ring now. Butcher brings a chair with him and beats down Honma repeatedly with chairs shots to his back and head. Butcher sets up the ladder, both jockey for position. Butcher throws Honma in to the corner and starts biting him. Butcher sets up Honma on the top turnbuckle and goes to get the ladder. He puts the ladder in front of Honma. Honma climbs on the top of the ladder and Butcher follows him up. Press slam by Butcher off the top of the ladder (WOW!). Both men down. Butcher gets up and crawls for a near fall. Both up again, Butcher hits a giant brutal cradle pile driver for another near fall. Butcher has an abdominal stretch, Honma refuses to submit. Butcher releases the hold. He hits a face buster in to the ladder. Butcher picks him up and goes for a clothesline but Honma comes back with a dropkick. Flying forearm by Honma to a prone Butcher against the ring ropes. Honma bounces off the ropes and does it again but misses as Butcher ducks out of the way, but on the return bounce hits it again. Butcher is down. Honma gets a near fall. Honma whips Butcher in to the far corner and follows it up with another flying forearm smash and then a Sting face buster. Punches by Honma, chops by Butcher, punches by both, back and forth. Honma to the ropes, clothesline, block, punches by Butcher, block, Release German suplex by Butcher on Honma. Honma is down. Butcher goes for a clothesline, Honma ducks and hits a roaring discus punch! Butcher is down, the pin attempt, just 2. Both men are slow to get up now. Honma whips Butcher in to the corner but Butcher reversed the whip. Butcher moves in for the kill and is met with giant boot. Honma to the second rope, and he hits a Buff Blockbuster! Only gets 2 and 1/2 this time. Honma sets up the barbwire board in the middle of the ring then rolls out to the floor. He hits Butcher while he is on the floor to keep him on the mat. Honma reaches in and grabs the barbwire board and yanks it to the floor and sets it up between two folding chairs. Butcher is now to his feet in the ring. Butcher to the outside apron, the two battle for position. Honma puts Butcher on the top rope and follows him up. BUTCHER WITH A BALDO BOMB OFF THE TOP ROPE AND THROUGH THE BARBWIRE TABLE!! (HARDCORE!!). Butcher celebrates as Honma is down. Kick to Honma's prone body by Butcher. Butcher throws Honma in to the ring and pins him for a 2 and 3/4ths count! Butcher looks around in disbelief and picks up Honma for another brutal move. NORTHERN LIGHTS BOMB by Butcher! Another near fall and kick out by the champion. Butcher gets a folding chair and sets it up in the middle of the ring. Back suplex by Butcher which missed the chair completely (I guess that is hardcore!). Butcher positions the ladder in the middle of the ring and slams Honma and then climbs the ladder. Elbow drop splash off the ladder. Which led to yet another near fall. Butcher can not believe it, and he is pissed off. Butcher throws the ladder outside to the floor he is so pissed off. Butcher picks up Honma and slams him down in front of the far corner. Butcher picks up the second ladder but drops it to kick Honma. Butcher picks up the second ladder once again. Butcher tries to slam it down on Honma but it hits the ropes and missed. He picks it up and places it on Honma. Butcher to the top rope and hits a giant knee splash on the ladder which Honma was under. Butcher pins Honma while he is still under the ladder but Honma powers out by lifting the ladder up with Butcher on top of it. Butcher drags the barbwire board over to the ladder and sets it up on top of the ladder (Which was hanging half way out of the ring at the time). Butcher sets Honma back on to of the top rope in the corner. Honma has nothing of it and pushes the Butcher down. Honma repositions himself as Butcher is groggy and jumps off the top rope in the opposite direction and hits the edge of the ladder hanging outside of the ring, spring boarding the ladder with the barbwire upwards in to Butcher's head (COOL SPOT!). Honma picks up Butcher for a slam but Butcher slips out. Honma picks him up again and hits a Spicolli Driver for a near fall. Once again Honma hit another Spicolli Driver. Honma goes outside of the ring and climbs up a ladder and hits a flying head butt on to the arm of Butcher. Honma puts Butcher in to a key-lock (arm hold) for the submission. Honma turns it in to a Fujiwara arm bar. At 22:18 Butcher taps out.

After the match, Honma thanked the crowd and said he would continue his winning ways. And win the 2000 Cup.

Unfortunately Missy & Joel are back now finishing the show out. If I had to watch this again with out the purpose of doing a review. I'd turn the volume off. Because the announcing and interaction with these two was bad. More because of Missy whining during all the matches and more concerned about 'screwing' wrestlers then calling serious action. But the action more then made up for it in my own personal opinion.

At the end, Missy Hyatt danced & I became ill. I never imagined I would ever write Missy Hyatt dancing would make me ill. She looks terrible now.

Sound quality: The only detraction I noticed about the quality of sound during this show was the announcing (play by play & color). It was so obvious to tell Gertner & Hyatt were added by post production and it made the show have a negative feel to it. But the overall quality of the wrestling action (which is all that should count!) more then made up for the announcing. Hell, this was the first wK Media experiment in to the PPV business. So they get a free pass. I am sure the next time they will improve a bunch in the presentation of the shows.

Visual quality: They actually included captions of the Japanese Wrestlers yelling during the matches. Which was excellent, because I don't know a damned word of Japanese myself. And now I actually know what the boys are yelling during their matches. Nice touch. Great! I applaud wK for this.

Overall outlook on 'purchasing this VIDEO: If you are a HARDCORE WRESTLING NUT, like I am. BUY THIS VIDEO! If you are an old ECW FAN and miss ECW, BUY THIS VIDEO! If you are not, well, buy this VIDEO and become one! I feel HARDCORE now that I watched this video. I feel like my wrestling quota for the month has been filed just by this one wrestling video tape. And those people who know me, know that I do not shill for a product I do not believe in. I loved this video. I would watch over and over again, and will. The matches were excellent. The announcing wasn't, but I can always turn the volume down and watch the action. So hey, everybody can be happy.

You can purchase the VHS and/or DVD versions online at wkmedia.net for a price of $14.95 (VHS) or $16.95 (DVD) plus shipping and handling charges. The DVD version includes a bonus match (Matsanga vs. The Great Pogo). Information on paying by check or money order is also available at the wK Media website.
